Stephen Strasburg overcame a two-run first inning to shut down the Houston Astros over the course of thr next seven-plus innings in route his record-breaking fifth win of this postseason.
Strasburg got touched up in the first allowing two runs, including a moonshot of a home run by Alex Bregman. But he didnt allow another run in what turned into a brilliant 8 1/3 innings outing.
Following the Washington Nationals’ Game 6 win in the World Series, Strasburg admitted he was tipping his pitches to FOX Sports’ Tom Verducci. Strasburg said that Nationals pitching coach Paul Menhart gave him the heads up and he started shaking his glove to throw off the Astros hitters.
With the win, Stephen Strasburg becomes the first pitcher in MLB history to go 5-0 in a single postseason.
This isn’t the first time the Astros have been accused of stealing signs or similar. The New York Yankees also accused Houston of bird watching during the ALCS. Good for Strasburg and the Nationals they got a whiff of it and saved the club’s season to force a winner takes all Game 7 on Wednesday.
