Trent Williams reported to the Redskins just ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, ending his holdout. However, his return has been far from a joyous reunion with the team.
Williams failed a physical after he experienced discomfort with his helmet, stemming from surgery he had during the offseason to remove a cancerous growth from his head. A growth, Williams accuses the Redskins’ medical staff misdiagnosed the severity.
Williams talked to the media following Thursday’s practice, confirming he had cancer and that he no longer trusts the Redskins’ medical staff or team president Bruce Allen in so many words.
A few hours later, the Redskins released a statement on Williams’ allegations. The team requested Williams’ medical records be reviewed by the NFL and the NFL Players’ Association in a joint committee.
Williams reportedly has no intentions of playing with the Redskins this season. His trade request appears to remain despite the deadline passing. Washington did not the offers they received in a last ditch effort to move the disgruntled left tackle. They reportedly will pursue a trade after the season.
Until then, the standoff between Williams and Washington appears to still be on.
