Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams spoke candidly Thursday during an 18-minute presser with the media. Williams confirmed the growth on his head was cancer, and that he no longer trusts the Redskins after the medical staff misdiagnosed the severity of the growth.
“I almost lost my life,” Williams said per Les Carpenter of the Washington Post.
Williams acknowledged he spent two weeks in a Chicago hospital and claims no members of the Redskins visited him except for former teammate DeAngelo Hall.
Williams hoped to be traded. But reported to the Redskins before Tuesday’s trade deadline to avoid his two years remaining on his contract to be tolled.
He underwent a physical but failed when he experienced discomfort with his helmet. He acknowledged it was awkward undergoing a physical with the same medical staff he no longer trusts.
While Williams wants more guaranteed money on his contract, he doesnt want to ask the Redskins for another dime.
When asked if his relationship with team president Bruce Allen can be repaired, Williams gave a stern answer, “Next question.”
He doesn’t trust Allen or the medical staff, but made it clear he has no negative thoughts towards owner Dan Snyder.
He also said “There was no communication. No conversation” with the Redskins front office during his holdout.
Given Williams’ candid comments about the Redskins organization, it appears the two are headed into an eventual divorce.
