The NFLPA released a statement Sunday defending Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams in his ongoing medical dispute with the team. In the statement, the union says it will “consider potential action” over “misinformation” being leaked to the media.

Williams ended his holdout that started with June’s mini-camp by reporting to the team before Oct. 29 trade deadline. Thursday, he met with reporters for the first time since he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his scalp.

He was candid saying he no longer trusts the Redskins medical staff after he believes he was misdiagnosed by the them. He also avoided a question asking if his relationship with team president Bruce Allen can be repaired.

Williams ultimately failed his physical when he experienced discomfort trying on his helmet. Interim head coach Bill Callahan said Thursday, the team is working to provide Williams a custom helmet.

The Redskins fired back, requesting the NFL and NFLPA conjoin to review Williams’ medical records.

Washington was granted a two-week exemption for Williams. Once it expires, the team will have to decide to add him to their 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve for what would be the remainder of the season.
