Washington Redskins tight end Jeremy Sprinkle make a base salary of $645,000, yet he is facing fines totaling over $84,000 for hits he delivered in Week 8’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN’s John Keim.
Sprinkle earns $37,941 per week, but was fined $56,156 for a hit to the head on Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes. It’s the largest fine for a play this season.
On that play, Sprinkle lowered his head on a six-yard reception, striking Rhodes helmet-to-helmet. Rhodes was taken to the medical tent and evaluated for a concussion.
Jeremy Sprinkle was also fined just under $28,000 for a second hit. Both plays were deemed unnecessary roughness by the NFL. He was not penalized on either play.
The 25-year old can appeal both fines under the Collective Bargaining Agreement that allows players to appeal for a fine “exceeds 25% of one week of a player’s salary for a first offense, and 50% of one week of a player’s salary for a second offense.”
