As the Washington Redskins’ season is coming to an end Sunday at Dallas, Bill Callahan would like to hang around as the team’s head coach much longer. Speaking with reporters Monday, the interim head coach stated he “absolutely” wants to coach the Redskins next season.

Callahan became Washington’s interim head coach following the firing of Jay Gruden after a 0-5 start to the season. Callahan had been the Redskins’ offensive line coach the previous four seasons and assistant head coach since 2017.

Callahan touted him bringing back a work ethic to the Redskins that he though was lacking, per JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

The Redskins are 3-7 under Callahan. However, they have played better and progressed especially after rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins took over under center.

Given the circumstances presented to him, Callahan has instilled a hard-working mentality that did not exist under Gruden. The players respect him and have responded for the most part to his coaching.

Yet, there have been a fair share of complaints about his game management, an issue that has followed him going back to his time as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and Nebraska.

It’s unclear what direction the Redskins will go at the end of the season and whether Bill Callahan is under consideration for head coach position.
