Ahead of agreeing to become the Washington Redskins head coach, Ron Rivera reportedly planned to name former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator and Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks as his defensive coordinator.
However, according to John Keim of ESPN Wilks will not be joining Rivera in DC after all.
Wilks remains under contract with the Cleveland Browns while the Browns are looking for a new head coach after firing Freddie Kitchens.
Does that mean Wilks could remain in Cleveland under the new head coach? Maybe he has something else lined up? He may not want to return to Washington after serving under Joe Gibbs in 2005?
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported just this morning Wilks was a candidate for Rivera. So something happened that is causing Rivera to turn into another director for his defensive coordinator.
