Nationals Troll Bryce Harper, Phillies on Twitter

The Washington Nationals and Bryce Harper divorced last winter with the outfield slugger signing with NL East rival, the Philadelphia Phillies. Thus, an already storied rivalry got heavier.

His signing was supposed to propel Philadelphia ahead of Washington in the pecking order. Instead, the Phillies missed the postseason and the Nationals claimed the club’s first ever World Series championship.

Many Nationals supporters and baseball fans alike pointed out Harper’s departure coinciding with the Nationals winning it all. On Thursday, the Nationals one-upped their rivals and former star.

Earlier in the day, the Phillies’ Twitter posted an image of Harper with the caption, “Number 3.”

That prompted the Nationals to give the subtle jab by posting a picture of Adam Eaton holding up the World Series trophy with the caption “Number 1” in reference to recently won championship.

Yeah, this rivalry has gone up a notch most recently with Harper joining the Phillies after playing seven seasons in Washington. The first year of a 13-year pact with the Phillies did not go as planned for Harper. Until he wins a World Series, he will be reminded on way or another of his former club reaching the mountain top without him.
