Saturday, Alex Ovechkin netted his 700th career NHL goal against the New Jersey Devils. The Washington Capitals captain became the eighth player and second-fastest to accomplish the milestone.
Monday, the Devils announced through their social media accounts, the team is gifting Ovechkin the net used during the historic moment with the caption of “Some moments transcend an individual game” was the captioned used.
Ovechkin joined an elite club with his 700th goal. Ovechkin’s ascending up the NHL’s all-time goals list has many hockey fans and media alike debating if Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer ever. Wayne Gretzky is the league’s all-time leader in goals with 894, but Ovechkin is on a pace that could realistically challenge the feat.
For now, he will enjoy the moment of reaching a milestone only seven others have. And now, he will have the option to add the net from that moment to his memorabilia collection.
