The Washington Redskins are being precautious amid the coronavirus outbreak that has swept through the world. According to ESPN’s John Keim, Washington is cancelling all of of their scheduled top-30 visits for the NFL Draft.
The Redskins have been proactive in their handling and prevention of coronavirus. Earlier Thursday, the team informed all coaches and scouts to suspend all travel in preparation of next month’s draft.
Washington’s decisions come on the heels of NBA suspending their regular season indefinitely Wednesday after two Utah Jazz players — Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell — contracted the COVID-19 virus.
The NHL followed suit Thursday by suspending their regular season. The NFL cancelled their annual spring meeting scheduled for later this month. All five Power 5 conferences suspended their men’s basketball tournaments. Meanwhile, Major League Baseball suspended spring training and delayed the start of their regular season for “at least two weeks.”
The Redskins coaches and scouts will rely on phone and video calls, film and prior observations with their draft preparation.
Washington currently has seven selections for the NFL Draft, including the second overall pick, that is slated to begin on Apr. 23.
