Chase Young is expected to hear his name called within the top three picks of Thursday’s NFL Draft. The Maryland native feels it would be an “honor” to be selected by his hometown Washington Redskins with the second overall pick.
Whether it’s the Redskins or another team, Young will celebrate his selection in a unique fashion. During an interview with CBS Sports HQ Monday, Young will hold a drive-up watch party with family and friends.
“We’re gonna shine a projector on the side of the house, so that everybody else can drive up outside and watch (the draft). When I do get drafted, I can come outside. Just trying to make sure I can follow the rules while I also see the rest of my family.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone to turn to unconventional methods. The NFL will undergo a fully virtual draft this week. Players will celebrate with their families and friends while trying to follow social distancing. Young’s plan will allow him to bask in the moment with his chosen people as best as he can.
Young recorded 27 sacks as a starter in his final two seasons at Ohio State, including a school-record 16.5 as a junior.
He has been compared to former college teammate Nick Bosa, who was a second overall pick last year. Bosa won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019, helping the San Francisco 49ers’ run to a Super Bowl LIV appearance.
Young would bolster an already impressive defensive front for the Redskins. And would come in as a fan favorite given his local ties and standout high school career at DeMatha.
