Patrick Ewing made headlines Tuesday while talking to Andy Katz of FOX Sports. The Georgetown head coach stated star guard Mac McClung would be returning to Georgetown for his junior season along with Jamorko Pickett. McClung had declared for the draft in March.
Ewing dropped the nugget during an interview with Andy Katz of FOX Sports.
“Mac McClung and Jamorko Pickett decided to test the waters and I think both of them, well they told me that both of them will be coming back,” Ewing said. “… Definitely Mac and Jamorko, they’re also a significant part of our team, and we’re definitely happy that they’re coming back and we’re looking for a better year.”
However, McClung’s agent, Daniel Hazan, disputed his client has given any indication to anyone at Georgetown on whether he would withdrew from the draft and return to college next season.
“We continue to remain focused on his upcoming interviews with NBA teams in preparation for the 2020 draft,” Hazan added in statement.
Last season, McClung led the Hoyas in scoring, averaging 15.7 points along with 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 21 games. However, he shot a subpar 39.4 percent from the field, including 32.3% from three.
As a 6-foot-2 guard, McClung is currently not listed in the top-100 draft prospects for ESPN or CBS sports.
With uncertainty surrounding the draft and combine due to the coronavirus pandemic, McClung faces an uphill battle to work his away into being one of the 60 names selected in the draft. Still, there is a huge benefit in going through the draft process.
If McClung returns for his junior season, he will have an opportunity to build on his shooting and overall game, such as his passing as an on-ball guard.
