The Washington Redskins have agreed to a one-year deal with offensive guard Mike Liedtke, according to his agent, Brett Tessler.
Liedtke spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appearing in 10 games total — mostly on special teams.
Liedtke spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns mostly as a camp body and on practice squads before signing with the Buccaneers midway through the 2016 season. He was promoted from the Buccaneers’ practice squad in 2017 and made the team’s roster in 2018. He missed all of 2019 while on injured reserve.
The Redskins have added depth to their offensive line throughout free agency. Liedtke’s reported addition gives the Redskins five guards under contract — Brandon Scherff, Wes Martin, Wes Schweitzer and Jeremy Vujnovich. NFL teams will be required to dress a minimum of eight offensive lineman on game day, as the active roster has increased to 48 players.
Presumably, Liedtke’s best way to make the 53-man roster will be his ability to contribute on special teams.
