It’s not often an undrafted rookie gets granted a team press conference by his new team. However, the Washington Redskins granted team beat writers access with a Zoom press conference with tight end Thaddeus Moss, the son of Randy Moss.
And it’s his father whom Moss is “tired” of being compared to. While he said he is not tired of questions, he is about the comparisons.
“I think I’ve finally reached that point where I’m tired of the comparisons. Everyone keeps mentioning my father and mentioning my last name,” Moss said per Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com. “…I look forward to getting out there and making a name of myself.”
Moss isn’t as flashy or as fast as his Hall of Fame father. They play two different positions. Moss is a physical blocker, who can be a huge impact on any running game. He does have sure hands like his father, but will need to get create separation from defenders to make a bigger impact in the passing game.
Randy Moss did get passed by NFL teams but still landed in the first round to the Minnesota Vikings. Thaddeus was passed up by every NFL team, as he was not selected throughout the entire draft.
Moss has a steeper wall to climb as his father. If he is to make a name for himself he will have to overcome the Redskins’ deep tight group that added three players in free agency. And if he has anything close to his father’s career, he will certainly have to carve out his own path and make his own identity.
