Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer appeared in a Colorado court Monday. Latimer was arrested Saturday on multiple felony charges stemming from an incident that took place at a friend’s apartment during a poker game.
During the hearing, Latimer’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, told the court that he has been contacted by law enforcement concerning an investigation of a alleged sexual assault of Latimer’s 4-year old son, committed by someone at Saturday’s poker game according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
According to Schefter, Steinberg told the court the alleged shooting incident occurred “at about the same time and location” as the alleged sexual assault on the child.
According to Denver’s 9News, the host of the poker game, Roderick English, stated in the police report he kicked everyone out of the apartment following the argument. However, Latimer returned to the apartment shortly afterwards, pulling out a handgun threatening both English and his girlfriend.
According the report, Latimer said he had saved two bullets for both the host and girlfriend and that he would “kill everybody.”
English initially was able to calm Latimer down. However, at some point Latimer fired two shots and then hit English on the top of the head with the gun before police arrived to the apartment.
Latimer is scheduled to appear in court again on July 24.
