Alex Ovechkin wants the Washington Capitals to bring back the black and white uniforms he wore as a rookie.
The Capitals held a Jersey Madness tournament with fans voting on their favorite Capitals jerseys of all-time. The final pitted the current red alternates (modern design of original road jerseys) against the 2015 Winter Classic sweaters.
As the Capitals displayed the final choice, Ovechkin chimed in the comment section.
“@capitals the best one my 1st year 🙏🙏❤️️❤️️” Ovechkin wrote for his first comment.
He then made his plea for support from Capitals fans.
“Lets make it happen, my 1st jersey for next year? say yes pls caps fans so all know we all want it.”
The Capitals donned the black, blue and bronze color scheme when Ovechkin entered the NHL in 2005. Washington wore the black Capitol jerseys for home games and white Screaming Eagle jerseys on the road.
Alex Ovechkin scored his first 98 of 706 career NHL goals in the designs. The Capitals re-branded, going back to their current red, white and blue color schemes and uniform designs they currently wear.
It remains to be seen if the Capitals would consider Ovechkin’s request.
