Twitter CEO makes huge donation to John Wall’s rent relief program for DC residents

Last month, John Wall launched 202 Assist, a rent relief program for residents in Ward 8 sector of Washington, DC affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial goal was to raise $300,000. Wednesday, Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, announced he is pledging two-thirds the amount of the goal to Wall’s cause.

The Twitter CEO’s donation comes following the death of George Floyd that has sparked protests and outrage across the nation. Dorsey announced he is donating a total of $88.9 million to numerous causes, including $3 million to former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp.

For Wall, he is adding his commitment to supporting the DC community, in particular Southeast section of the nation’s capital. Ward 8 is a predominantly black sector, that houses a large portion of low-income residents.

Recently, the Washington Wizards moved their practice facility to the ward on the campus of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital through their parent company, Monumental Sports Entertainment. The campus also houses the home of WNBA Washington Mystics and NBA G-league affiliate the Capital City Go-Go.

DC mayor Muriel Browser thanked Wall for his efforts in the 202 Assist. Twitter CEO’s generous donation is the largest to the program to date.
