The Washington Wizards could be without its best player when the NBA restarts the 2019-2020 regular season in Orlando. Bradley Beal told reporters during a Zoom conference he has yet to make a decision on if he is joining his team at Walt Disney World.
Beal emphasized his indecisiveness is not related to social reform. However, he is concerned with not being able to play 5-on-5 and get into basketball shape until a couple of weeks before heading into the bubble in Orlando. He added “a lot” of players are thinking the same.
Washington will enter the Orlando bubble 5.5 games behind the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. They’ll need to finish their eight-game restart schedule within four games of the eight spot to have a chance in the playoffs.
The Wizards are already facing an uphill battle to make the playoffs. That hill may become an insurmountable mountain if Beal opts not to play.
Beal leads the team with 30.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. His 30.5 points per game is only second to James Harden in the NBA this season. The Wizards’ second-leading scorer and best three-point shooter, Davis Bertans, opted out of playing in Orlando last week. Washington is reportedly replacing Bertans with Jerian Grant.
