Report: Washington name change ‘Imminent’ as NFL asks teams to remove Redskins logo

The Washington name change is “imminent” according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports. Robinson also stated the NFL asked other teams to remove the Redskins’ logo from their websites and platforms.

Owner Daniel Snyder is committed to changing the team’s name before the start of 2020 season, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The team announced a “thorough review” of the Redskins’ name on July 2. Sponsors, have applied immense pressure on Snyder and the NFL to change the team name. Nike pulled all Washington’s merchandise from their website. Walmart and Target followed Nike’s lead, pulling merchandise from their stores as well.

FedEx, who’s CEO is a minority owner of the Redskins, also threatened to remove the company’s name from the team’s home stadium, FedEx Field, by 2021 if there was no name change.

Warriors and Redtails initially were popular choices across social media. However, in recent days Redwolves have picked up steam, including from former Washington players like Fred Smoot.
