Washington has settled on a temporary new name, announcing they will be referred to as the “Washington Football Team” for the 2020 NFL season. That is while the organization continues its process of selecting a more permanent new name.
The team also has a new logo and uniforms to coincide with their changes.
Washington is keeping their traditional color scheme of burgundy and gold. However, there are a few noticeable changes to the uniforms and helmets. ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided a first look at what the uniform will look like.
The helmets will feature the player’s number as the decal in place of the old Redskins logo. The look has an Alabama Crimson Tide feel to it. Coincidentally, Washington has a league-high nine players from Alabama on their roster.
At first glance, the jerseys will have just one gold stripe on the sleeve instead of the usual white and gold stripes. The pants have been modified as well, with thinner side stripes, as opposed to the previous burgundy and white stripes.
Schefter added Washington Football Team merchandise will be available soon for fans to purchase from Fanatics and NFL Shop.
The helmets and uniforms will be temporary. The organization will seek feedback from players, alumni, fans sponsors and the community for a new team name for the future, according to Schefter.
