Trea Turner came through clutch with a spectacular game-saving double play. The Washington Nationals shortstop made a diving snag to rob Teoscar Hernandez of a go-ahead RBI in the eight inning. Turner then flipped the ball to a waiting Starlin Castro that sparked a 6-4-3 double play, preserving a scoreless tie against the Toronto Blue Jays, Wednesday night.
The Blue Jays were threatening with runners on the corner and one out. Hernandez ripped a grounder that appeared headed through the gap. However, Turner made sure to halt Toronto’s scoring chance.
The Nationals didn’t waste Turner’s efforts, as they scored four runs in the 10th to top the Blue Jays 4-0 in extra innings.
Trea Turner has come aboard since his sluggish start to the 2020 MLB season. He initially started the year 0-for-8 at the plate and a couple of mishaps on defense were unusual for the herald shortstop.
Since, Turner has been in a groove at the plate, hitting 7-for-15 (.466) with one home run and two doubles since his hitless start to the year. Wednesday’s web gem of a play momentarily erase memories of his two errors and .882 fielding percentage he had entering the tonight’s game.
