The Washington Football Team has activated linebacker Reuben Foster from the physically-unable-to-perform list. The team announced the roster move Sunday morning.
Foster suffered a serious knee injury during OTA practices last year in May. He tore his ACL, MCL, LCL and suffered nerve damage as a result. The injury caused him to miss all of the 2019 season.
In January, his agent revealed Foster regained feeling in his foot. Since, Foster has worked to getting back on the football field.
Foster has yet to play a snap with Washington. A first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, Washington claimed the former Alabama Crimson Tide off waivers in November 2018. Foster was cut by the 49ers following an alleged domestic violence incident at a team hotel with his ex-girlfriend.
After Washington claimed him, Foster was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list for the remainder of the 2018 season. Charges were eventually dropped and Foster was activated ahead of OTA practices for 2019 season. However, Foster suffered the devastating knee injury in his first practice.
Now healthy and off-the-field issues behind him, Foster will compete for most likely with Thomas Davis and Cole Holecomb at outside linebacker in Washington’s 4-3 defense.
Foster is in the final year of his rookie contract. Washington declined a fifth-year option in March. Determined and with a lot to prove, Foster has the opportunity to finally get on the field for Washington in hopes of rejuvenating what was a promising career.
