Watch: Alex Smith rolling out to deliver pass in practice

Footwork and mobility are two of the biggest aspects Alex Smith must conquer in his comeback to the playing field. The Washington Football Team quarterback displayed he is capable of moving well by rolling out before delivering a pass in practice Wednesday.

Smith has primarily worked in QB drills and 7-on-7 as he tries to build up to getting reps in 11-on-11 with lineman battled in front his injured leg.

Smith’s mobility and footwork has been “in tune” according to Washington head coach Ron Rivera. The more he shows in drills he can move around and protect himself in and outside the pocket, the closer he gets to an opportunity of competing on the field in normal game situations.

Getting to this part is already a miraculous feat by a player who suffered a compound fracture, endured 17 surgeries and nearly had his leg amputated. But, Smith’s end goal is to play again. With more and more evidence each day, it appears his quest is more than just a feel good story.
