The Washington Nationals have fired an employee who was seen throwing coffee on a female convenience store clerk in the Dominican Republic, according to Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.
A video of the incident was posted Friday to Twitter. The employee, identified as Jazhiel Morel is seen filling two cups of coffee before getting into an animated exchange with the woman clerk. Morel initially attempted to go out of the store, but turned back towards the woman. Moments later, he throws the two cups into the woman’s face before exiting the store.
Morel was working as an administrator of the Nationals’ academy in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. He has reportedly agreed, through his lawyer, to turn himself in to police Monday morning
“The Washington Nationals learned of this horrific incident earlier today and immediately terminated the employee,” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement to ESPN Saturday. “We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our organization.”
The Nationals’ Dominican Republic academy has produced talents such as Juan Soto, Victor Robles and rookie Luis Garcia among others currently on their roster. The academy was spotlighted celebrating Soto hitting his first MLB home run and again after he hit a two-run double in the World Series.
