The Washington Football Team has released wide receiver Cody Latimer.
Latimer is facing felony charges, stemming from a May incident in Colorado. He was placed on the NFL’s commissioner exempt list ahead of training camp.
His virtual hearing was pushed to Sept. 10. Latimer did not count against the team’s 80-man roster. However, Washington signed Dontrelle Inman shortly after Latimer was placed on the exempt list.
Inman has stepped in well by all accounts, getting reps with the first-team offense as the No. 2 outside receiver opposite of Terry McLaurin.
Latimer signed a one-year deal with Washington in March. The hopes were he could push for the No. 2 wide receiver role this season and mentor the youthful wide receivers group.
However, he was arrested in May after an alleged altercation during a poker game at a friend’s apartment in Colorado. He was booked on eight charges, including four felonies — second-degree assault, two counts of menacing and tampering with physical evidence.
In addition with Inman fitting in the role that may have been intended for Latimer, Washington has a solid wide receiver room despite their youth. McLaurin leads the way, but Steven Sims Jr. has seemingly locked up the No. 3 spot.
Third-year pros Cam Sims and Trey Quinn have also flashed as well as undrafted rookie Isaiah Wright. It’s unclear if there were any new developments in Latimer’s case. Yet, it appears Washington is comfortable with the wide receivers they have in camp enough to move on.
