Jonathan Allen helped off field with leg injury

The Washington Football Team got a bit of a scare during Sunday’s practice. Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury.

A brace was placed on Allen’s left leg, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. He watched the remainder of practice from the sidelines. Matt Ioannidis filled in his place with the first-team defensive line.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Allen’s leg got rolled on. But, the injury “doesn’t look serious,” according to Michael Phillips of Richmond.com. Allen wanted to go back on the field but the team held him out.

Allen is entering his fourth season with Washington. He has been a key cog along their talented and deep defensive line, recording 14 sacks the past two seasons. His sack totals could rise as Washington is switching to the 4-3 base defense, allowing him more snaps in the 3-technique than before.

Losing Allen for any significant time would drastically alter the vision and rotation of Washington’s defensive line despite their depth. Hopefully all is good with Allen.
