The Washington Nationals placed left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. Doolittle exited Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves after throwing three pitches.
This will be Doolittle’s second trip to the IL. He was placed on the IL in August with a right knee injury after struggling at the start of the shortened season. He returned on Aug. 30 and looked to have find his footing, making five straight appearances without allowing a run before last night’s outing.
Currently, there is no time frame for Doolittle’s absence. However, with less than three weeks remaining on the season, it may be tough for him to return before season’s end. The Nationals are 16-26 and in last place of the NL East.
Sean Doolittle has a 5.87 ERA with a 1.696 WHIP in 11 appearances this season.
The Nationals have recalled left-handed pitcher Ben Brayer to replace Doolittle. Brayer made his MLB debut on Aug. 28 against the Boston Red Sox. He allowed one earned run, four hits and a walk in 1.1 innings pitched.
