Washington linebacker Thomas Davis has been ruled out of Sunday’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles with a calf injury. Cornerback Kendall Fuller is doubtful with a knee injury.
Rookie offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles is listed as questionable with a calf injury of his own. He was a full participant in practice Friday for the first time this week. The injury kept him most of training camp.
Davis signed a one-year deal with Washington and was a presumed starter at outside linebacker. But Davis was listed second on the depth chart behind Shaun Dion Hamilton. Kevin Pierre-Louis is slated to start opposite of Hamilton.
Meanwhile Fuller’s potential absence could be more significant. Fuller signed a four-year, $40 million deal with Washington this off-season. He is locked in as a starting cornerback opposite of veteran Ronald Darby. But if he is unable to go, Washington will have to reshuffle.
Jimmy Moreland got a significant amount of first-team reps on the outside and in the slot during training camp. He started five games last season as a rookie and has blossomed throughout camp. Washington also has veteran Fabian Moreau, who started seven games last season. Greg Stroman and Danny Johnson round out Washington’s cornerbacks on their 53-man roster.
