Jordan Reed missed all of 2019 with a concussion after a preseason helmet-to-helmet hit. It was his seventh documented concussion since college. He contemplated retirement and after the season, Washington released the oft-injured tight end after seven seasons.
Free agency passed through and Reed remained available before he was a late signing with the San Francisco 49ers. On Sunday, replacing the injured All-Pro George Kittle, Reed shined a glimpse of his old self, catching six passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
Many reacted to seeing the former Washington star having a big day after all the issues that plagued him throughout his career.
Reed last caught a touchdown on November 18, 2018 against the Houston Texans from Colt McCoy — it was the same game Alex Smith broke his leg.
In addition to the concussions, Reed had been hampered with a number of other injuries. He has never played in a full 16 games in a season. Still, he emerged as one of the better receiving tight ends in the league. He was a favorite target in Washington’s pass game with his best season coming in 2015 with 87 catches, 952 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Seeing him return to the field and making an impact is a great sight for many fans of Reed.
