Sunday’s game between the Washington Football Team and the Cleveland Browns is set to make history. It will be the first NFL game with a female official and a female coach on both sidelines. Sam Rapoport, the NFL’s Senior Director, Diversity and Inclusion, made the announcement.
The official will be Sarah Thomas. Thomas became the NFL’s first and lone female official in 2015. Jennifer King will be on the sideline for Washington. King became the league’s first full-time Black female coach in February when she was hired to Ron Rivera’s coaching staff. Callie Brownson will be on the Browns’ sideline. Brownson became the league’s first chief of staff in January.
FOX Sports sideline reporter Laura Okmin announced on Twitter she will be speaking to all three women this week ahead of game. She will share her conversations during the NFL on FOX broadcast Sunday. The game will kickoff at 1:00 pm ET.
Washington (1-1) will be looking to bounce back from their Week 2 loss in Arizona. Meanwhile, the Browns (1-1) will being going for their second straight win.
