The Washington Football Team has signed defensive tackle Devaroe Lawrence and defensive back Manny Patterson to the practice squad, releasing kick Brett Maher from the practice squad.
Washington signed Maher to the practice squad on Sept. 10 after being released by the New York Jets during final cuts. He previously spent the past two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, but was cut in December due to accuracy issues. Adding a veteran kicker to the practice squad made sense given the COVID-19 pandemic. However, injuries have forced Washington to focus on bolstering depth at other positions.
Washington is signing Lawrence after placing stud defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis on injured reserve with a torn bicep. Lawrence went undrafted in 2017 after tearing his ACL in his final collegiate game with Auburn.
Lawrence played in 12 games with the Cleveland Browns between 2018 and 2019 before being released last November. He finished the season on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. The Chiefs released him during final cuts in September.
