There’s immense pressure on Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins. He will go against one of the NFL’s top secondaries in the Baltimore Ravens, and do so while looking over his shoulders.
Ron Rivera hinted to there being a “cut-off point” for Haskins if he continued to struggle. Friday, NBC Sports Washington reported, Rivera and offensive coaches met with Haskins to make clear his job was on the line and his play needed to improve.
The cut-off point could be at some point Sunday against the Ravens. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Haskins could be pulled in favor of backup quarterback Kyle Allen, if he struggles early against Baltimore.
Washington traded a fifth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for Allen this off-season. Allen played the previous two seasons with Rivera and current Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner.
Allen, who started 12 games last season for Carolina, was expected to compete for the starting QB spot with Haskins during training camp. However, the lost of the preseason due to COVID-19 helped Washington name Haskins the Week 1 starter without a true competition.
Sunday will be Haskins 11th NFL start, but its apparent Rivera’s patience may already be running thin on the second-year QB.
