The Washington Football Team has added to their roster, claiming former Philadelphia Eagles rookie defensive end Casey Toohill.
Toohill was a one-year starter at Stanford, collecting 11.5 sacks as a senior last year before being a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in this year’s draft. He was measured at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, running a 4.62 in the 40-yard dash out of college. He made the Eagles 53-man roster out of training camp, appearing in one game playing 22 defensive snaps in Week 2.
The Eagles waived him on Tuesday, as they appear to be getting the injured Vinny Curry back soon. Philadelphia appeared to have hoped to sign Toohill to their practice squad if he cleared waivers. However, Washington placed a claim for the young pass rusher.
Toohill will add to the already strong defensive end group with No. 2 overall pick Chase Young, 2019 first-round pick Montez Sweat leading the charge. They also have franchise sack leader Ryan Kerrigan and the versatile Ryan Anderson behind the pair of standouts.
Washington is allowed to carry 54 players on its roster while Toohill undergoes the mandated six days of pre-entry COVID-19 testing.
