Dwayne Haskins returned to practice Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday practices due to an illness described as gastrointestinal issue. The Washington Football Team quarterback’s ailment became noticeable last Sunday when he did not attend the team’s 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams after being sent home by team doctors.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera liked what he saw from Haskins in his first practice back.
“He looked good,” Rivera said per John Keim of ESPN. “He did the things he was supposed to do. It was good to see him out there. A bunch of his teammates came over and dapped him up to let him know they were glad to have him back. That’s what I was hoping for.”
Haskins’ absence the past week occurred mere days after being benched in favor of Kyle Allen after starting four games. Haskins was also placed behind Alex Smith on the depth chart, as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart.
Speculation brewed about his status with the team during his absence, including trade rumors. However, Rivera has insisted he has “not quit” on the 23-year old quarterback.
Despite his return to practice, his status for this Sunday game still is unclear. Rivera said he was not sure if Haskins would be able to travel with the team to New York to face the Giants.
