The Washington Football Team is banged up at wide receiver after rookies Isaiah Wright and Antonio Gandy-Golden suffered injuries last week against the New York Giants. Washington head coach Ron Rivera told the media Wednesday, receivers Tony Brown and Jeff Badet will be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s division clash against the Dallas Cowboys.
Gandy-Golden suffered a hamstring injury on the opening drive against the Giants. Wright suffered a shoulder injury on the final possession of the game after taking a huge hit on a six-yard catch. Neither Wright nor Gandy-Golden practiced on Wednesday.
Washington reportedly is signing Robert Foster off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad. As the signing is not yet official, Foster would still be subject to a six-day window to clear the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols which would rule him unavailable against the Cowboys
The only other healthy and available wide receivers are Terry McLaurin, Dontrelle Inman and Cam Sims.
Brown is 6-foot-1 and went undrafted this year out of Colorado. A slow 40-yard dash of 4.65 at the Scouting Combine and concerns of him being a one-year wonder in his senior year led to him going undrafted.
Badet is listed at 5-foot-11, 182 pounds. The former University of Minnesota product has blazing speed, clocking in at 4.27 40-yard dash in the 2018 Scouting Combine. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2020 XFL Draft of the Dallas Renegades, catching 16 passes for 108 yards before the season was suspended earlier this year.
