Nationals re-sign Josh Harrison to one-year deal

Josh Harrison will return to the Washington Nationals for next season. The utility-man has agreed to a one-year deal with the Nationals, the club announced.

Harrison will earn $1 million in base salary with $250,000 in incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic.

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has long had Harrison on his radar before he became available in July after requesting his release from the Philadelphia Philles.

Harrison bounced back in the COVID-19 affected season from his dreadful 2019 season in Detroit. He appeared in 33 games this season for Washington, becoming a huge asset on the field and inside the clubhouse. He hit .278/.352/.418 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 91 plate appearances.

The 33-year old made 22 starts this year at second base, seven at third base and four in the outfield.

Retaining Harrison gives the Nationals a reliable bat and plug off the bench, especially with uncertainty surrounding third base as the off-season approaches.

Harrison spent the first eight seasons of his 10-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, earning two All-Star appearances there. He has hit .273/.314/.402 with 163 doubles, 28 triples, 56 home runs, 291 RBIs, 132 walks, 80 stolen bases and 384 runs scored during his career.
