Washington linebacker Jon Bostic was ejected in the third quarter for a blatantly late helmet-to-helmet hit on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton. The hit jarred Dalton’s helmet off, knocking him out on impact.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera was none too please and apologized to Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy for Bostic’s ugly hit.
“I went up to him and apologized to him for it,” Rivera told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I wanted him to know that we don’t play that way, and it’s unfortunate that it happened.”
Dalton lay motionless on the field before being attended to by the medical staff. Ultimately, he was aided off the field into the locker room where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Rivera added to Florio, he told Bostic “You’re a veteran guy, you should know better.”
Washington wasn’t impacted by Bostic’s ejection. The outcome of the game was already decided at the time of the play.
Washington dominated the Cowboys 25-3 for their second win of the season. However, the win was overshadowed some with the dangerous hit. Now, their starting Mike linebacker will surely be subject to a hefty fine and possible suspension.
James Madison product Ben DiNucci finished the game at quarterback for Dallas. The Cowboys faces uncertainty at quarterback as Dalton will begin the week in the concussion protocol with the Philadelphia Eagles up next on Sunday Night Football. They’re already without Dak Prescott, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5.
