A week after struggling through three interceptions, Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is off to a much better start this week against Minnesota. After tossing his first touchdown pass in a Maryland uniform on an impressive 11-play drive, Tagovailoa burned the Golden Gophers defense for a 39-yard touchdown run.
Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, seemingly bounced back from a dreadful first start last week at Northwestern. Playing against Minnesota, Tagovailoa has looked much more confidence, completing six of his first seven passes and then showing off his ability to run out of the pocket.
Maryland head coach Mike Locksley could not have asked for a better start from the Alabama transfer. The score puts the underdog Terrapins up by two touchdowns early.
Earlier this week, Locksley vowed he was “100 percent” committed to Tagovailoa. Thus, Tagovailoa is proving his coach right to stick with him early on in the Friday night clash.
