Washignton defensive end CHase Young is the highest-graded rookie according to Pro Football Focus. But don’t tell that to his mother, Carla Young. She is a far tougher grader.
Through six games in his NFL career, Chase Young’s mom gave him a C+, in large due to him not leading the league in sacks.
Young doesn’t even lead his team in sacks. In fact he is third with 2.5 sacks behind Montez Sweat’s five and Ryan Kerrigan’s four. He hasn’t picked up a sack since Week 2. That’s despite playing majority of Washington’s snaps in recent weeks.
Young only has two quarterback hits compared to Sweat’s 11 and Kerrigan’s four. He also has six pressures on the quarterback.
Young has still made an impact for Washington, taking on double teams allowing Sweat and Kerrigan their opportunities. His hit on New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones lead to a crucial red-zone interception by cornerback Kendall Fuller in Week 6.
Still, mom has high standards. Chase Young will have to do more to get a better grade from his mother.
