Maryland trolls James Franklin, Penn State on Twitter after stunning win

For just the third time in 44 meetings, Maryland beat Penn State on Saturday. The rare win was a blowout from the opening drive, as the Terrapins routed the Nittany Lions 35-19. To add more context, Maryland led 35-7 in the third quarter before cruising to victory.

Following the win, Maryland’s Twitter account trolled their Big Ten rival Penn State and its head coach James Franklin in a trio of tweets.

The first troll “Sad Valley” is an obvious play off Happy Valley, the region in Pennsylvania where Penn State is located. Maryland also threw in “You Were” and “We Are” in reference to the Nittany Lions’ mantra of “We Are.”

The second tweet of “Maryland” in repetition mimics a tweet from Franklin earlier this week ahead of Saturday’s game.

The Terrapins even threw in a bit from the recently called Presidential election, calling the state of Pennsylvania property of Maryland on the gridiron, at least for one year.

Maryland’s enthusiasm is understandable. The win and offensive surge on Saturday was rare. The 35 points was the most the Terrapins have ever scored against Penn State. Maryland had been outscored by a combined score of 163-6 in the previous three meetings.
