Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins will be active and kick for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN’s John Keim. Hopkins made “a couple” of 50-yard field goals during walk-thru on Saturday and was declared good to.
Concern of his availability this week increased as he was limited in practice throughout the week with a groin injury. Washington head coach Ron Rivera previously said, Hopkins would have to be able to kick in practice by Saturday in order to play, adding he could be a game-time decision.
Washington would have turned to practice squad kicker Kaare Vedvik if Hopkins was unable to play. However, Hopkins’ status was hinted earlier Saturday when Washington decided not to elevate Vedvik from the practice squad to the active roster.
Hopkins will now be able to extend his 43-game streak of being active for Washington Sunday in Detroit. He has been entrenched as Washington’s place kicker since Week 2 of the 2015 season.
However, this season has not been to Hopkins’ standards. He is 10-of-14 on field goals, including 5-of-9 on attempts 40 yards and beyond. Thus, Hopkins will be looking to atone his struggles and overcoming his groin injury by playing Sunday.
