Garrison Mathews signing qualifying offer to return to Wizards

Restricted free agent guard Garrison Mathews will sign his qualifying offer and return to the Washington Wizards, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. The qualifying offer for Mathews is worth $1,549,812, according Spotrac.

Mathews proved to be a good find for the Wizards last season after he went undrafted out of Lipscomb. Playing on a two-way deal, Mathews appeared in 18 games with the Wizards, averaging 5.4 points in 12.6 minutes per game. He shot 42.9% from the field, including 41.3% from three. He also shot 91.2% from the free throw line.

Mathews’ rookie season was highlighted when he scored a career-high 28 points with four rebounds on Dec. 23, 2019 in a win over the Miami Heat.

He adds depth at shooting guard, slotting behind Bradley Beal and Jerome Robinson. Washington also gets another proven outside shooter to go alongside side the returning Davis Bertans.
