The Washington Wizards are releasing center Anzejs Pasecniks, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic. The Wizards will now have 14 players on its roster following Pasecniks’ release.
Pasecniks had a partially-guaranteed salary of $350,000 this season which would have become fully guaranteed if not waived by Jan. 31, according to Spotrac.
This season Pasecniks appeared in one game. In that New Year’s Day game, he infamously tied an NBA record with five turnovers in six minutes of play.
Pasecniks was behind Thomas Bryant, Robin Lopez and Moe Wagner in the rotation at center. He wasn’t expected to see an uptick in minutes even with the season-ending ACL injury to Bryant last week.
A former first-round pick of the Orlando Magic in 2017, Anzejs Pasecniks joined the Wizards organization in 2019 by way of a two-way contract. He signed a three-year deal with the Wizards last season. However, he appeared in a total of 28 games with the team, averaging 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds.
