One better in Las Vegas is taking a long shot on the Washington Wizards. Despite their 8-17 record and early struggles, one better has placed a $10,000 wager on the Wizards to win the NBA championship this season.
Dropping $10,000 on a team, who currently 14th in the Eastern Conference, is undoubtedly risky. However, if somehow Bradley Beal and company figure things out and goes on a magical run, the wage cashes in for a cool $5 million.
Expectations were high for the Wizards following the trade for Russell Westbrook that send John Wall and a heavily-protected first round pick to the Houston Rockets. Westbrook is a former NBA MVP and Beal has developed into one of the most lethal scorers in the NBA. Yet despite the backcourt combo, the Wizards have stumbled out of the gates.
Beal leads the NBA with 33.1 points per game. Meanwhile, Westbrook is averaging a near triple-double with 19.3 points, 9.4 assists and 9.3 rebounds. However, the Wizards have been unable to gain jell and gain traction this season.
Still, no one can argue the starpower the two together creates. Injuries and a COVID-19 outbreak have lingered over the Wizards’ season. But they have won two straight, dominating the Boston Celtics on Valentine’s Day and Wall and the shorthanded Rockets on Monday.
Not to mention, they are 2-0 this season against the Brooklyn Nets. With that being said, the Wizards are nine games under .500. They also give up 119.1 points per game, which only the Sacramento Kings allow more.
The bettor is most likely to take lose out on $10,000. But, the bet adds intrigue to an otherwise lackluster season for the Wizards.
