Henrik Lundqvist shared last week he began cardio exercises in the wake of having open-heart surgery. Now, the goaltender shared an update 47 days after the surgery, by returning to the ice in his Washington Capitals gear.
Lundqvist signed a one-year deal with the Capitals this offseason. The 15-year veteran was expected to spell last year’s rookie sensation Ilya Samsonov in net. Unfortunately, those plans were nix. Lundqvist was forced to opt out of the 2021 season due to a detected heart condition.
Lundqvist, 38, is now getting back to normal life. Getting back on the ice and getting in stick work laminates the progress he’s made nearly seven weeks following the surgery.
