Trea Turner and his wife Kristen announced on February 12, the couple had their first son, Beckham Dash Turner. Young Turner’s middle name “Dash” is intriguing considering Trea is one of the fastest players in Major League Baseball.
Turner has 171 career stolen bases. He’s sniped at least 30 bases in four of his five full seasons, including two with 40-plus. So it’s fitting the choice of Dash for his son. Yet, credit belongs to Washington Nationals bench coach Tim Bogar.
Trea Turner and his wife settled for Beckham as the first name. But he thought back to Bogar’s suggestion of Dash from the “The Incredibles” for a cool middle name. Here’s an extended account of the story from Turner behind the name courtesy of NBC Sports Washington.
“So we knew that was gonna be the first name but at one point last year, [bench coach Tim Bogar] came up to me and said, ‘You gotta name your kid something fast,’ and I’m like, ‘All right, whatever.’ He goes, ‘You know Dash from “The Incredibles?” That’s what you should name him.’ I was like, ‘Well, I’m not going to name my kid first name Dash.’ But then we started thinking about it and as a middle name we thought it was pretty cool and it kind of flowed really well — or at least we thought so. And we went with it and we like it.”
Thanks to Bogar, the kid is destined to be fleet-footed just like his father. Beckham may be his first name, but one can already envision him rounding the bases being referenced as Dash Turner.
