Russell Westbrook already has set Wizards single-season record for triple-doubles

Russell Westbrook had 19 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in the Washington Wizards’ 128-112 over the Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday. With his 10th triple-double of the season, Westbrook has already set the Wizards’ single-season record.

The previous record was held by Darrell Walker, who had nine during the 1989-90 season with the Washington Bullets. Walker recorded his ninth triple-double in his 81st game of the season. Westbrook did so in his 24th game.

Russell Westbrook is the modern-day Oscar Robertson. He has become synonymous with triple-doubles. His 157 career triple-doubles are only second to Robertson’s 181.

Traded to the Wizards from the Houston Rockets in December for John Wall and a future first-round pick, Westbrook has racked up the triple-doubles in his first year in Washington. With the franchise single-season record in tow, Westbrook appears destined to set the Wizards’ all-time record. Walker currently holds that mark with 15.

On the season, Westbrook is averaging 19.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 9.8 assists. He has overcome a quad injury that hampered him at the start of the season. Now, with him relatively healthy, Westbrook alongside the NBA’s leading scorer Bradley Beal, have led the Wizards to seven wins in their last eight games.
