Washington re-signs Dustin Hopkins to one-year, $2.46 million deal

The Washington Football Team has secured one of their own at the start of free agency. Kicker Dustin Hopkins has re-signed with Washington on a one-year deal worth just over $2.46 million, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Hopkins was a sixth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2013. But a groin injury kept him from ever playing a game with there. Ultimately, he landed with Washington in 2015 and hatched on.

He’s appeared in 87 games with Washington, making 151-of-180 field goal attempts and 169-of-178 extra points. However, last season he struggled, primarily from long distance.

Hopkins made a career-low 79.4% of his field goal attempts. He was 15-of-21 from at least 40 yards.

Hopkins previously played on a pair of three-year deal. Thus, getting just a one-year deal this time around points to him looking to prove 2020 was an aberration and not an alarming trend.
