Free agent wide receiver Adam Humphries is visiting the Washington Football Team Thursday. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report Humphries’ visit.
Washington is looking for an upgrade at slot wide receiver despite the signing of Curtis Samuel, according to John Keim of ESPN. Washington wants flexibility to line Samuel along their offense at various positions.
If, Washington is unable to land a slot receiver in free agency, they could address the need in this year’s NFL Draft.
Humphries has familiarity with Washington’s recently added quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Humphries and Fitzpatrick were teammates for two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017-2018. It was 2018 when Humphries had his best season to date with 76 catches for 816 yards and five touchdowns.
Fitzpatrick has told coaches Humphries is “one of the best and smartest slots he played with,” according to Keim.
Humphries also returned punts during his four seasons in Tampa. Current Washington special teams coordinator Nate Kaczor was the special teams coordinator in Tampa during Humphries’ time there.
After playing a career-high 781 offensive snaps in 2018 with Tampa, Humphries signed a four-year free agent deal with the Tennessee Titans in 2019. In Tennessee, Humphries saw his playing time greatly diminish. He played a combined 602 offensive snaps in the past two seasons with the Titans, recording 60 catches, 602 yards and four touchdowns. The Titans released him last month to save cap space.
