Russell Westbrook took over overtime in Friday’s game against the Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans. He capped his efforts drawing a shooting foul on Zion Williamson with 1.0 seconds remaining in a tied game.
Westbrook, who has struggled as of late at the charity stripe, made both clutch free throws to seal the Wizards’ 117-115 win.
Westbrook scored 10 of the Wizards’ 12 point in OT. The only bucket he didn’t score, Westbrook got the assist on the Bradley Beal layup.
In fact, Westbrook scored or assisted on 18 of the Wizards’ final 23 points. That included his driving layup in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 105-105 sending the contest into overtime.
He finished the game with 36 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists — all of which were game-highs. His overtime takeover illustrated his dominance over the last 10 games.
During that stretch, Westbrook is averaging 23.2 points, 13.7 rebounds and 11.9 assists. He has 10 triple-doubles in his last 12 games. With the win, the Wizards have now won five of its last six games. Their latest surge has them tied in the games back column for 10th in the Eastern Conference and the final spot in the play-in tournament.
